Grant for a study on Regional Biomass Utilization in Sandzak

Sandzak, April 12, 2012 - The USAID Sustainable Local Development Project (SLDP) has approved a $35,000 grant to the Sandzak Economic Development Agency (SEDA) to prepare a feasibility study on Regional Biomass Utilization.

This study will examine opportunities to increase the use of renewable energy sources in the Sandzak region.  For example, the  use of wood biomass in public heating systems in Novi Pazar, Tutin and Sjenica could help sustain the health and resilience of forest ecosystems, slow down the pace of negative climate effects, reduce regional fossil fuel dependence and would create opportunities for investment and job growth.

If the study finds viable uses for renewable energy sources, the region will be in a better position to apply for EU and Serbian Government funds that support the use of environmentally friendly technologies.
